Administration

Treasurer's Office Administrators are responsible for the overall decision-making for the office and coordination of personnel, finance, investments, quality assurance and budget matters.

The Treasurer is supported in these activities by his chief deputy, and one administrative assistant.

The Treasurer manages the investments and invests funds in accordance with the County's Investment Policy.

Accounting

Responsible for:

• Accounting for all Receipts
• Accounting for all Disbursements
• Distributing taxes to the other governmental taxing agencies
• Reconciling the County's bank accounts
• Preparing the Treasurer's Financial Reports on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis.

These duties are managed by an administrative assistant and several staff members, along with the Senior Program Analyst from the Information Technology Department, whose task is to develop and maintain a software system that is more than 20 years.

Financial Services

Responsible for receiving, processing, depositing all cash and checks from County departments, state and federal agencies, as well as payments on property tax bills for a maximum of 10 years as mandated by the State statute.

The Treasurer is also responsible for the retention, microfilming, storing and destruction of records for the Treasurer's Office in accordance with the State Retention Schedule

Public Services

Responsible for responding to property tax inquiries, both written and by telephone, as well as processing property tax payments.

Payments made at Doña Ana County Treasurer’s Office

Payments can be made in person on the first floor of the Doña Ana County Government Center at 845 Motel Blvd, Las Cruces, N.M.. When coming in from the main entrance to the building, turn left/south down the corridor. The Doña Ana County Treasurer's Office is located to your right/west. Drop Box

There is a drop box outside the Treasurer’s office. It is located in the hallway of the Doña Ana County Government Center near to the teller windows. The drop box can be used to avoid standing in line or mailing in your payment.

Wells Fargo Bank Payment Locations

Payment also can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank location in Doña Ana County. Wells Fargo will accept property-tax payments from Nov. 1 to Dec. 10.

Public Service is also responsible for researching payments made by taxpayers, mortgage companies, and title companies, for a maximum of 10 years, as well as issuing overpayments. During the primary tax collection periods, temporary mail processors may be hired to assist this department.

Tax Scheduling Services

Responsible for

• Creation, production and mailing of property tax bills and delinquency notices
• Maintaining the property tax schedule based on corrections submitted by the Assessor's Office
• Issuing overpayments on amended tax bills
• Processing court claims relating to property taxes filed in District Court
• Various support functions relating to the property collection process
• Processing bankruptcy claims and
• Tracking partial payments made on parcels under the protection of federal Bankruptcy Courts
• Issuing tax releases on mobile homes that are sold or moved
• Tracking prepaid mobile home revenue

Collection Services

Responsible for research, collection and processing of delinquent taxes on real property and personal property.

This department may issue demand warrants for collection on mobile homes and personal property equipment. Property can be impounded and sold it at auction when taxes remain unpaid.

Collection Services also is responsible for the research and collection of unpaid taxes due on parcels of land involving subdivision plats, assisting taxpayers with deed and assessment problems, and maintaining information on real property parcels sold at state auctions for delinquent taxes.
