The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department has become the first law enforcement agency in the southwest region to automate its management of physical and digital evidence with a state-of-the-art office productivity software and management system.
The TraQ Suite of office software for law enforcement incorporates tracking, cataloging and the overall inventory of physical evidence as well as photos, videos or any other digital evidence. The move will not only save time and money, but will reduce paperwork and improve the overall effectiveness of custodial evidence operations.
Until now, the sheriff’s department has utilized traditional filing cabinets along with pen-and-paper documentation for evidence submission. The TraQ Suite will employ the latest Internet browser technology in its management of evidence stored in Doña Ana County, running on a dedicated, secure-server network.
On the new system, deputies will no longer have to use manual forms to describe evidence; using a simple browser screen and individual bar codes, evidence can be entered and immediately available for review by investigators, deputies and prosecutors.
The system also has the capabilities to track general inventory within the sheriff’s department.
The purchase of the software was made possible through grant funding. TraQ Suite software is a product of QueTel Corporation based in Chantilly, VA and Burleson, TX.
