1. Why did the County change the Commission districts?
   

   All 33 counties in New Mexico are statutorily required to redraw district boundaries after each decennial Census. The redistricting process recognizes changes in population density and seeks to even out constituencies. It has guidelines to ensure that the new districts have clear geographical boundaries and encompass approximately the same populations.

   Doña Ana County hired an Albuquerque consultant and convened an advisory panel to make recommendations about proposed new boundaries. Public hearings were held before a final recommendation was advanced to the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners for consideration.

2. I’m suddenly in a different district than I was before. Who represents me?
   

   You are represented by the Commissioner for the district in which you reside. As a result of redistricting you may not be represented by the Commissioner for whom you voted. However, the Commissioners are not limited to only working with residents in their new districts; they are free to also consult with residents in areas they represented prior to redistricting
