Marriage License Requirements
Effective October 1, 2009. Both parties must be present at the time of application. No Exceptions.
If male or female falls into one of the following age groups then the following documentation must be provided in order to apply for marriage license:
Male or female under 16 years of age may not apply except with a COURT ORDER (see an attorney)
Proof of Age Required: Picture ID and State original or certified copy of birth or baptismal certificate (hospital certificate is not acceptable).
Male or female 16 years through 17 years of age may apply only with the *consent of a parent, or legal guardian or with a COURT ORDER (see an attorney).
Proof of age Required: Picture ID and State Original or certified copy of birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport (hospital certificate is not acceptable).
*Consent: Must be made in person and must provide picture I.D to indicate that he/she is parent/guardian. Legal guardians must provide proof of guardianship.Male or female 18 years through 20 years of age.
Proof of Age required. Picture ID and State Original or certified copy of birth certificate, baptismal certificate or military I.D.
Male or female 21 and older.
Drivers license or other Picture ID
FEE DUE AT TIME OF APPLICATION:
Twenty-Five Dollars ($25.00) in cash, payable at the time of application. NO EXCEPTIONS.MARRIAGES MAY BE PERFORMED ONLY IN THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
The marriage license is good indefinitely, but must be returned with the certification after the ceremony is performed. Whomever performs the marriage is responsible for returning the license with certification to the County Clerk where it was issued for recording with 90 days.
