Doña Ana County has taken steps to make our award-winning website accessible to users with visual impairments and language barriers. We have purchased Browsealoud, a software program from TextHelp Systems Ltd, which is free to use and assists a variety of users, including those with:
- Low literacy and/or reading skills
- English as a second language
- Learning Disabilities, such as Dyslexia
- Mild visual impairments
System Requirements
In order to install and use Browsealoud, you must have the following System Requirements:
PC users:
- Operating Systems: Windows 2000, XP or Vista
- Recommended Browsers: Internet Explorer 6 or above
- Adobe Reader 7 or 8 and Microsoft Word XP or above
- Pentium 350MHz + upwards Processor
- Good quality sound card and speakers
- 256 MB RAM (512MB recommended)
- 50 MB Free Disk Space
Apple Mac users:
- Operating System X 10.2.8 or later
- 256 Mb RAM (512 Mb is preferable)
- compatibility with Power PC or Intel processor.
Browsealoud Installation Guide for PC Users
- Click on the Browsealoud icon, and you will be led to Browsealoud’s website.
- Click on "Start Using Browsealoud" button.
- Click on "PC Download" button.
- Choose your operating system.
- Specify whether you are behind a firewall. If you are behind a firewall, the complete installer will be downloaded into one file. If you are not, the web installer will download only the files that you need, which results in a smaller download.
- The File Download - Security Warning dialog box is displayed.
- Either click on the Run or Save button to begin the installation.
- The License Agreement dialog box is displayed.
- Read the terms of using Browsealoud carefully before selecting the "I accept the license agreement" radio button.
- Click on the "Next" button.
- Wait while Browsealoud installs onto your computer.
- The Texthelp Browsealoud 4 Setup dialog box is displayed when Browsealoud is successfully installed.
- Click the "Finish" button.
By default, Browsealoud starts when your computer starts. However, if the "Always Start Browsealoud When My Computer Starts" box is deselected in the Program tab of the Browsealoud Options dialog box or you choose to exit Browsealoud, you must manually start Browsealoud each time you need to use it.
To manually start Browsealoud:
- Click on the "Windows Start" button.
- Access the Texthelp Systems folder from the program list.
- Click on "Browsealoud".
Browsealoud Installation Guide for MAC Users
- Click on the "Browsealoud" icon, and you will be lead to Browsealoud website.
- Click on "Start Using Browsealoud" button.
- Click on "Mac Download" button.
- The Introduction window is displayed.
- Click on the "Continue" button.
- The License Agreement window is displayed.
- Read the terms of using Browsealoud carefully before agreeing to them.
- Click on the "Continue" button.
- The Installation Type window is displayed.
- Make sure Browsealoud Installer is selected from the drop-down list at the top of the window and then click on the "Install" button to continue.
- Wait while Browsealoud installs onto your computer.
- The "Finish Up" window is displayed when Browsealoud is successfully installed. You are now ready to start Browsealoud.
To start Browsealoud:
You can either:
- double-click on the
shortcut (Browsealoud shortcut) on your Desktop - double-click on the
icon (Finder icon) in the Dock, locate the Applications Folder and double click on the Browsealoud application icon.
